Sri Lanka govt. has informed that 6200 killed and 30 000 wounded from our Forces for the last three years. We are helping the wounded,only DRC OBU is helping the wounded at the moment. .So please come along to the function and encourage any friends to come as well.A worthy cause.
Please let us know the state of tickets from the members who got them-how many sold, how many left, how many more you need. This will help us with the ordering of food.

-Dear all,
A copy of the remittace advice to OBU Kandy is attached. The amount transmitted is Rs. 75 099.00. This covers one months maintenance of the ground and the ancillary facilities for a month this year.
For next years contribution we are establishing a trust fund. We need more members to become life members by paying $100.00. This amount can be paid by installments. This is a "One Off" contribution and members are not required to pay any money in the future.

Please note that Hospital Projects and the supply of Medicines and Socket socks to Force's sick and disabled DOES NOT incur any OBU funds. Money for such projects are contributed by the Patriotic individual members and the General Public.
Please keep May 30th free for the fund raising event to buy Gell socket socks for the the amputees.There are some Old Rajans amoung the 4000 amputees at the Ragama Rehab. Unit. 164 Old rajans have sacrificed their lives for the countryso far.

Dharmaraja/Kingswood cricket match was very successful and every one enjoyed immensley, although we lost. Captain Kaduruwewa did a great job getting a team together at a short notice. Better luck next time. 160 from both Colleges attended.Old boys, wives, children etc. A free BBQ was provided,a papara band was in attendance. A combined party was held at the club house till midnight.

A joint DRC/Kingswood com.meeting was held on the 14th.It was agreed to hold annual 'bigmatch'on the 5th April (Sunday). Venue to be confirmed. Bigmatch plus BBQ.Papara band and a family occasion, all are welcome with the families.

As agreed(by the DRC OBU COM) we are holding a Appa Night in aid of the Dharmaraja VIRU SARANA project , under the ongoing Suwa sewa project.
Here are some details.
Date 30th May 2009, (Saturday)-Venue -Noble Park Community Centre,Ross Reserve,Memorial Drive,Noble Park 3174.
Cost:$20.00 adults,

Viru Saranna Project:
As requested we we rushed the anti fungal medicines to Sri Lankan armed forces. From the fund collected we have a balance of $292.25. The Committee decided to utilize this money plus more to assist to the Brave Soldiers who are fighting the Terrorists.

We have been in direct contact with the Director of the Sri Lankan Army Rehabilation Unit at Ragama, Brigadier Dr.(Mrs.) Sriyani Warusawitharana to identify necessary requirements for disabled soldiers. The Director requested a quantity of specially made Socket Gel Liners for the use of amputees. Ther are about 3000 Armed forces amputees now.

Socket Gel Liners (Gel socks)- This is a specialy made Sock with Mineral Gel liner layered throughout and sandwiched with two especial fabric layers. Gel Socks help to reduce the pressure and the pain on the stump when wearing a prosthetic (artificial) limb.

These socks are not available in Sri lanka. Soldiers use 5 or 6 cotton socks to minimise the pain but the skin gets damaged and the pain is immense.We are advised by the Rehab. Unit that they use GEl Sock made in UK.( brand name Silipos)The cost of one sock is $65.00. Our target is to provide 40 socks. That is about $2600 plus freight.

So we need help of every one to raise this amout from the Community in Melbourne. We have to tap the general community for fund raising.
Your help is needed for the soldiers who sacrifced their limbs so that we can live in our Mother country with out fear and with our heads held high.

We hope to hold a Ranaviru Adhistana Pooja(war hero Memorial Ceremony) in a temple during our fund raising period.

16 members attended the meeting held at Rohitha Dissanayakes house, chaired by Chandana Ekanayake, the folowing items of the agenda were discussed:

1. Kingswood/Dharmaraja Joint Dinner Dance.-some members expressed the view that 'dinner dance' is not the approprate term for the event, it was suggested the term 'Joint get together'-Suhada Hamauwa is better, because some members are comfortable with it. Mention Dinner Dance they might not come.But the Maroons band is available and no objections for people dancing.This event to be held towards the end of the year.-Coordinator- Chandana,Aruna.

2. Founders Day- 27th June-Saturday-Bana at Berwick Temple- Cordinator-Susantha.

3. Chandana attended the Clean Up Australia event organized by the Ananda Colege OBU. Due to a short notice we could not attend 'enmasse' but next year we might. Aruna suggested that next year we might do it alone. Secretary to contact Clean Up Australia.

3. Suwasetha Project- The Armed Forces are very pleased with our effort of providing a medicine for the solders. From the funds collected a sum of $292.25 is remaining. On inquiry the Rehab. Unit of the Army needs 'Gel Socks' for the amputees-these are worn by the amputees between the body stump and the artificial leg or the arm( prosthesis).This avoids the pain and the shock. Each sock costs about $us65.00.
Susantha suggested that we should hold a Appa and Koththu evening, open to gen.pubic to colect more funds. Agreed by the com. Event to be held on the 30th May, subjected to availability of a suitable premises.-Action by Susantha, Tiak and Aruna.

4. Financial statement by Gamunu Senviratne- $3225.00 in the bank. 96 raffel books were sod. Some have to give the money to Gamunu, please send the money as soon as possible.
19 life members fully paid, some partly paid. We need mre life members to fulfill our pledge towards the Cricket Ground Project.

5. AGM to be held in AUG/Sept.

Meeting closed.

A sumptious dinner followed from hosts Mr and Mrs Rohitha Dissanayake-Thanks.
Drinks and discussion followed, 1AM all the activites closed. Nextmeeting in another two months time. Kingswood/Drc Joint com. to meet discuss Cricket match, family get together etc.(Chandan to cordinate)

School Cricket GroundMaintenance Project

Introduction

With reference of to the Dharmaraja College Old BoysUnion of Australia Inc.’s Constitution, one of the primary objectives of theOBU is to assist extra curricular and sporting activities of the school.

A request by the School Play Ground Committee to assist in maintenance fundingof the ground was received. This proposal was submitted to themeeting of the Executive Committee held on the 20th September 2008. This wasapproved and identified as a relevant project.

Terms of reference

1. To provide adequate funding tomaintain the newly built school grounds.
2. To develop strategies to generate funds required for theproject.

Project Summery

The project intends to assist in partly funding the maintenance of the newlybuilt ‘state of art’ cricket ground and the turf wickets at the ‘Lake View’Estate in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

The estimated cost of maintaining the project, submitted by the School PlayGround Committee is Rs75 000.00 ($880.00 approx.) per month.

The estimate of the project expenditure was accepted by the Executive Committeeand decided to implement the project by contributing Rs.75 000.00 annually.That is our contribution of the maintenance fee for one month per year.

Implementation

1. The project will be implemented by establishing atrust fund in Sri Lankato provide a sum of Rs.75 000.00, annually to the School Play Ground Committee.
2. Documentary evidence of all the expenditure incurred bythe School Play Ground Committee in maintaining the ground is required by theOBU Executive Committee in Melbourne.
3. The OBU Executive committee will withhold or suspend thepayment if such documentation is not received prior to the payment.

Method of funding and fund collection

Funds collected in Australiawill be deposited in a specially created trust fund in a reputed financialinstitution Sri Lanka.Adequate funds are to be collected to generate an income of Rs.75 000.00 annually.
For the first year it is proposed to send a dollar equivalent of Rs.75 000.00,because the time factor required establishing the trust fund.

It is estimated that all members contribute $100.00 each, we will have enoughfunds in the trust fund to generate $75 000.00 annually.
By paying $100.00, the member becomes a life member of the OBU Victoria. Hencethe member is not required pay the membership fees annually. The annualmaintenance becomes perpetuity, funded by members. The $100.00 life membershipcan be paid as a lump sum or in installment of $20 per month for five months.

Conclusion
This is one of the major projects undertakenby the Dharmaraja OBU, Melbourne.

This project is well with in our scope and it is unique because a one is helpingthe old school for a worthwhile course in perpetuity.

Your one and only contribution of $100.00 willmaintain the funds for the future maintenance of the school grounds. We feelthat we owe something to the school, one must be thankful to the initialeducation at school and the influence it gave us for the betterment of life andstanding of this country.

Weappeal to every Old Rajan for the contribution andfeel contended and happy that you have done something to the school, our ‘AlmaMater’- Dharmaraja College.
